Congratulations Mama! Whether those two pink lines were unexpected or anxiously awaited, I am sure you feel like your world has been turned upside down. Take a deep breath and process the exciting news. There is nothing you need to go run out and do right this second, but there are definitely things to add to your to-do list now that you are pregnant.

Tell Someone
The first person you probably want to tell this exciting news to is your partner. While you can share the news with anyone you’re comfortable with, it is a good idea to let someone in on your little secret. You will want someone to talk to about your early symptoms, share your excitement or nerves with, and overall be a support person for you right from the start.
Schedule Your First OB Appointment
If you already have a trusted OB, give them a call and schedule your first pregnancy confirmation appointment. Most offices wait to see you until around 8 weeks, but this policy may vary depending on the office and your medical/fertility history. If you do not have an OB yet, take some time to do your research. Look for highly rated doctors in your area and be sure they take your insurance. While you can always switch doctors at any point during your pregnancy if you are truly not happy, do some research up front to hopefully avoid needing to switch down the line.

Review Medications With Your Doctor
While at this first OB appointment, this is a good time to go over any medications you may already be taking with your doctor. Certain medications aren’t safe for pregnancy, so be sure your doctor is aware of anything you take regularly.
Document This Journey
This is of course optional, but some women choose to take a picture of the positive test, or capture their or their partner’s reaction to the news. You may want to write down a few initial thoughts and feelings you are having. This is an exciting time in your life, whether your first or fifth baby, you may want to document these very early stages. You certainly don’t need to share this with anyone until you’re comfortable, but it might be something fun to look back on one day.
Take Prenatal Vitamins
If you are not already doing so, now is the time to start taking prenatal vitamins. Your body and morning sickness may tolerate certain vitamins better than others, so find one that works and begin taking it daily.
Eat Healthy
Once you get that first positive pregnancy test, it is time to start taking this new job seriously! As you navigate exhaustion and morning sickness, be sure you are also making a conscious effort to get some extra servings of fruits and vegetables. Some days will be better than others, as there will be some days you are simply in survival mode, but overall begin making healthier choices for your body and your baby. It is also time to avoid drugs and alcohol, as these can cause damage to your developing baby.

Whether you found out you’re pregnant this morning or last week, before you do anything on this list – take some time to soak in this news. Your life is about to change Mama, in the best way possible. Congratulations to you and your growing family!
If you are experiencing any negative emotions or feelings to this life changing news, find someone to talk to. Go over your options if that is what you need to do, or simply talk through everything you are feeling. Hugs and love to you too Mama.
