I always choose a show to watch during maternity leave to help occupy me for nursing sessions and especially to keep me entertained during middle of the night feeds. These name inspirations are brought to you by my obsession with Downton Abbey during my maternity leave with my third daughter.
GIRL NAMES:
Abbey
Okay this one is a given, but seriously I love that this spelling is unique and girly!
Rose
Beautiful name inspired by a beautifully independent character!
Edith
Old fashioned, but in the best way! These classic names are making a comeback and I can hear why with this cute name.
Cora
I love this strong and powerful name just like the Lady of Downtown Abbey!
Daisy
This name is too cute not to make the list and was inspired by such a loved and kind character!
Isobel
This unique spelling has me and would be perfect for a unique little lady!
Violet
Classic and steadfast like the Matriarch this name comes from!
Rosamund
I love that this name is different than Rose yet you could still use Rosie or Rose as a nickname!
Ivy
Flower names were clearly big in Downtown Abbey, but this one is very English and super sweet!
Sybil
Inspired by one of my favorite characters this name is just lovely and not a name I hear often!
BOY NAMES:
Branson
I loved that even in the show they called this character by his last name, which also happens to be my favorite boy name on this list!
Kent
Another last name that would be perfect for a little boy!
Crawley
Okay it’s a theme…I like the last names as first names and this name is inspired by my favorite male character on the show!
Barrow
Who wouldn’t love this noble name inspired by an equally noble character!
Atticus
One of the more unique names and would be really cute for a little guy.
John
So classic and there are at least 2 in the show so it had to make the list! I love that classic names are made new again by pairing them with a more trendy name like “John Parker” or “John Reed”!
Kemal
This name is as mysterious and interesting as the character that inspired it. One origin of this name says it means beauty.
Robert
Clearly a very common name, but the nicknames from this one would be just as special as the patriarch in the show who inspired it..think Robbie, Bobby, or even Beau!
Matthew
My favorite male character’s last name already made the list so I had to include his first name too! I love this traditional name for little boys.
Bates
Such a special name inspired by a beloved character! Truly a little guy named Bates will run his household like the character he is named after!
Hope this list inspires you and be sure to let me know your favorite girl and boy name from the list! I’m off to watch another episode of Downtown Abbey, but once you have your favorite I think it would look amazing personalized on these Caden Lane blankets fit for a little Lord or Lady of your household.
