Summer is officially here and it’s about to be the 4th of July. If fireworks and block parties aren’t your thing there are so many other activities that you can do to celebrate the fourth. I want to share with you some fun indoor and outdoor activities for the 4th of July that even your littles will enjoy.

Indoor Activities

You can still have so much 4th of July fun indoors, you don’t necessarily have to be outdoors to have a great time this holiday.

Baking/Cooking

Having treats for the holidays is a must. Baking or cooking a patriotic dish is a great idea because you can enjoy it throughout the day. Baking some red, white and blue frosted or sprinkled cookies is a great option or baking a cake and decorating it like the American flag is a classic option. You could also make a traditional pizza or a fruit pizza with red white and blue toppings. The options with food are endless. Creating a red white and blue drink to go with your themed food or dessert is a fun idea too.

4th of July Crafts

Crafting with littles is always a good idea for a day indoors if you ask me. Painting, coloring or using colored paper and glue to create an American flag sounds fun. You can also make a little bit more of a mess and add some glitter and glue to create some fireworks on paper. Decorating shirts or hats is another option too.

Games

Spending the day indoors calls for games whether they are just for fun or educational. You could create a 4th of July themed scavenger hunt for red, white and blue items. Another option is to play some educational games to learn more about Independence day and some fun facts about why we celebrate. 4th of July bingo is also an easy idea.

Being indoors can still be loads of fun and is also a great way to beat the heat if the temperature is hot where you are.

Outdoor Activities

It’s summertime so it’s finally nice to be outdoors all the time, if the weather permits of course. Here are some fun activities that you can do outside while celebrating the 4th of July.

Crafts

Crafts are not just for indoor fun you can also do loads of crafts outdoors. Painting on paper or even rocks is a fun activity and great for outdoors. Using sidewalk chalk is also a fun craft. Creating 4th of July themed pictures such as fireworks or the American flag are great but there are so many other things such as the bald eagle or the Statue of Liberty.

Water fun

It’s summer, it’s hot and water fun is where it’s at! Having a water balloon toss or water gun chase is always a good time and can get everyone involved. Of course setting up a sprinkler or splash pad, or water slide are just as fun, even a small pool.

Sports

Outdoors games I’m thinking of cornhole, ring toss, even capture the flag or a relay race. It could be as simple as soccer or even frisbee. You can put a patriotic theme to it and even set it up like a mini olympics. For outdoor games there are so many options to get everyone moving around and having fun.

Bonus 4th of July Activities for Indoors or Outdoors

There are a few activities for the 4th of July that you can do indoors or outdoors. Watching celebrations or parades that are live streamed online are a fun idea. Having a picnic indoors in your living room or outside at a park or even in your backyard is fun for everyone. Taking a walk or hike if you are outdoors is another option.

No matter how you are celebrating the 4th of July, whether indoors or outdoors, don’t forget to have fun!
