Of course every Mama hopes that any positive pregnancy test results in a sweet little baby at the end, but unfortunately that is not always the case. Any pregnancy can and should be celebrated, but the reality is that miscarriages are possible. I don’t say this to take away from your excitement and joy, but rather to share the signs and symptoms of a miscarriage, should you sadly experience one.
Miscarriages are common, but often not talked about enough. If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, or are in extreme pain or discomfort, reach out to your medical provider as soon as possible. This blog is not to take the place of professional help, it is simply to educate about the early signs of a miscarriage.

Bleeding & Clots
While mild spotting can be normal in a healthy pregnancy, it is always best to pay close attention to any blood you are seeing. Any abnormal bleeding, especially if it is heavy, filled with clots, or if you are filling a pad in an hour, should be discussed with your doctor as soon as possible.
Cramping or Pain
Some cramping is normal in a healthy pregnancy, as your body is making room for this new life. However, if you are experiencing pain or intense cramping in your lower stomach, or on one particular side, reach out to your doctor. This would also be cause for concern if it is paired with heavy bleeding or clots.

Loss of Pregnancy Symptoms
Depending how far along you are in your pregnancy, some symptoms may naturally come and go, so this might not be an immediate concern. Pay attention to how you are feeling overall, and if any intense symptoms do pop up (like diarrhea or vomiting).
Vaginal Discharge
Some discharge is normal in a healthy pregnancy but be sure to talk with your doctor if you notice unusual fluid or tissue vaginal discharge. If this symptom is paired with any of the above symptoms, reach out to your doctor as soon as possible.
Nobody ever wants to experience a miscarriage, as a Mama who has experienced a few of them, I know how heartbreaking it can be. It is important, however, to be aware of what a miscarriage might look and feel like. As always, if you are ever concerned or worried, reach out to your doctor. If you do find yourself experiencing a miscarriage, my heart goes out to you, they are never easy, no matter how far along you are.
