Every holiday or season is a reason to celebrate with your little ones, even the ones that aren’t typically celebrated. Valentines Day is the perfect time to teach your kids about the true meaning of love and show them how loved they truly are all while having tons of fun. Here are some creative ways to celebrate Valentines Day with your babies this year.
Valentines Day Baskets
Baskets can be such a simple gesture to show some extra love to your kids. You can get as creative as you would like, I personally love to fill mine with things we will use through out the month for activities or themed items for the holiday.
Themed Bath
Baths can be a hassle with kids at times so I started when my first was about 1 year old making themed baths for different seasons, holidays, or even different things we are currently learning. Heres some things you can add to your Valentines Day Bath
- Bath Bombs
- Bath Color Tabs
- Bath Crayons/Paints
- Red/Pink/Purple Favorite Toys (we use cars and monster trucks)
- Dollar Tree Finds (heart shaped containers, etc.)
- Scooping and Mixing Tools (we like to make Valentines Soup)
The options are really endless find things that will make your babies happy and have fun with it.
Sensory Bins
Sensory bins are my speciality and something we do often but I know it can be overwhelming to start. The holidays are the perfect time to start with some simple holiday bins. Here is a couple bin ideas for you for this Valentines Day.
Valentines Soup
This is a great one to start with and can be done in the bath like I mentioned earlier or done in a bin. Fill a bin with water, add your “ingredients” and some tools for scooping and filling. Here is some things you could use.
- Fabric Hearts and/or Candy Hearts
- Flower Petals
- Small Spoons, Bowls, Whisks Etc.
- Pom Poms
- Food Coloring
Let your kids get creative mixing up “soups” and serving them to you.
All Things Valentines
This one can be a lot of fun, and could be used as a learning activity as well. Start by picking a base for the bin, this could be dyed rice, moon dough, oobleck, really whatever you would like just make it a Valentines Day color. Next is your fillers, We want to keep with the Valentines Day colors and can use s lot of the same fillers we used for our Valentines Soup. Thats my favorite part of sensory play, You can buy a few tools and make many different bins because the sensory experience is really the base. You could also add letters or numbers to hide in the base or you could just leave it with the fillers you pick. Let your little ones explore the textures and use their imagination. I also love to talk to my kids about the colors and shapes they see.
Valentines Day Books
Every year I typically buy my boys a new book for Valentines Day and give it to them at the beginning of the month. I then put our collection of books out to read for the month of February. You can do this for all the holidays and seasons, your kids will love it.
Decorate Their Door/Room with Hearts of Love
This is probably my favorite way of celebrating with my kids. Cut out some hearts big and small out of construction paper in red, pink and purple. Write down all the things you love and appreciate about your children on the hearts. You can either put them up one at a time each day with your child or put them up all at once but read them to your littles, make them feel extra special and loved.
Do you have any traditions for your kids for Valentines Day? Will you be adding any of these to your traditions this year?
