Making every birthday feel special is so important to me as a mom and filling the day or even the week with as much fun as possible is so huge for me. Today I wanted to share the sensory bin I made for my birthday boy this past month so you could add it to your birthday festivities.

Supplies Needed:
- Variety of Birthday Candles
- Cupcake Liners
- Sprinkles
- Scoops
- Flour
- Oil
- Food Coloring
- 2 Bins
Instructions:
I started with making the moon dough which we used as our “cake.” Moon dough is very simple to make and is essentially a flour consistency that can be molded into whatever shape or form you would like.
To make the moon dough start with baking your desired amount of flour, I used about 6 cups at 315 degrees for 5 minutes. This step is essential, especially for younger kids, because uncooked flour isn’t edible and most littles tend to taste test.
Next, split the flour into bags for however many colors you plan to make. I did the rainbow so I had about a cup of flour in each bag.
I then got 1/4 of a cup of oil and added food coloring to it before pouring it into my flour. Mixed everything really well and layered my colors in my bin.
In a separate bin I placed my candles, cupcake liners and scoops. My bins were then ready to go and I added them to my table, excited to show my boy the next morning. This sensory bin kept him so busy and he was beyond happy.
If you don’t want to make the moon dough, you could also buy boxes of cake mix and just bake those for a few minutes ahead of time. Maybe even bake the cake and crumble it up for a filler. Sensory play is always filled with so many options, that’s part of the fun.
Let us know if you try this one out this year for your little ones birthday.
