To all the mothers, grandmothers, godmothers, expecting mothers, adoptive mothers, foster mothers, and mother figures in this world – I wish you a happy & beautiful mother’s day. Being a mother is the most important job title you will ever hold, and while you should be celebrated everyday, I hope this Mother’s Day is particularly special. Surround yourself with your little ones, hold them close and enjoy a day that is dedicated to celebrating the superhero you are. You deserve it!
To all the patient mothers whose arms are empty this year – you are not alone. Many other women are also spending this holiday grieving, wishing, and waiting. The journey to motherhood is not always, and in fact it often never is, an easy one. Everywhere you turn, there are reminders of everything you yearn for. It’s hard. It’s unfair. I know, because I’ve been there.
“Tough times never last, tough people do.”
-Robert H. Shuller
You may not be able to see past the negative tests or the failed procedures right now, but your day will come. Your journey to motherhood is uniquely yours. You will come out on the other side a strong, grateful, and completely deserving mother. Right now though, it may be difficult, you might feel like you’re failing at something. You aren’t failing at anything.
Your worth and value as a woman is not determined by how many children you raise. Your ability to work through adversity is admirable. Your patience as you wait for what you want and deserve is unmatched. Your strength to put a smile on your face day in and day out is unlike any other. Your role as a woman, a wife, a partner, a sibling, a daughter, an aunt, a friend, is important. Your confidence in who you are is stellar. You are anything but a failure.
My wish for you is that this mother’s day is exactly what you need it to be. Surround your heart with those who love you and will raise you up. Spend this mother’s day with just your partner at home doing something you love together. However you choose to spend your day, I hope your days of wishing and waiting are numbered. I hope you receive your miracle baby, your rainbow baby, the perfect addition to your family so soon. You deserve it.
