Doesn’t it always seem like we’re always strapped for cash? Some of us are struggling to afford birthday gifts and vacations and kid sports, and others are barely able to pay for rent and groceries and electricity. No matter what boat you’re in, we could all benefit from extra money.
Many might just say we need to work more. But that’s not always possible. Costs of childcare, job opportunities, transportation limitations, and simply lack of time can make it hard for many families to generate better incomes.
We’ve compiled a list of ways to bring in a few extra dollars. You likely won’t get rich from any of these methods, but they could give you some fun money, help you build up your savings or investment portfolio, or simply alleviate a bit of the daily financial stress that comes with being a mom.
What’s great about many of these suggestions is that they don’t force you into any commitments. They don’t necessarily take a lot of time or force you to go out of your way to make money. They are all fairly easy to complete, and at the end of the month, you could have a few extra dollars.
Simple Money-Making Tools
Check out some of these programs and see if they will work with your routines to help you generate extra income.
Missing Money: Visit missingmoney.com to see if you have any unclaimed property. This website is run by the National Association of State Treasurers. The search is easy to use, and in just a few minutes you could find out you have money that is owed to you. This only takes awhile if you have lived under different names and in different states. If you find any entries that match your information, simply claim those listings and follow the prompts to get your money!
Upside: This app helps you earn cashback when you fill up your gas tank. First, put your credit card information into the app. When you need gas, you simply use the app to claim the offering at the gas station of your choice and make sure to use the same card that you connected to the app. When you are finished filling up you mark the claim as paid. They also have some stores and restaurants in the system, as well. Plus, you can send your personal link to friends and earn money when they use the app, too! You already have to buy gas, so you might as well earn cashback along the way. Depending on how much you drive, it can add up pretty quickly. When you are ready to get your payout, you can choose to send the money right to your bank account or get a gift card.
Fetch: Simply put, this app gives you points for receipts and you can buy gift cards with those points. Every receipt earns 25 points, but it can take a while to rack up enough points for gift cards unless you are regularly checking the app for bonuses and such. Fetch now offers points for shopping through their app at your favorite online retailers, and they also offer points for playing games. They have a great selection of gift cards to choose from. Ibotta is a similar that may be worth checking out.
Five Surveys: This app is very straightforward. For every five surveys you take, you get five dollars. Now, the surveys are not all short; if you are not careful, you could spend an hour or more of your time and earn only $5! But, if you have a few minutes of time here and there (maybe while your kids play on the playground, or while you sit in the pick-up line at school), this might be a simple way to earn some extra money. A similar program to consider is called SurveyJunkie.
Kashkick: This app allows users to earn money through games and surveys. They have a great selection to choose from, and each game earns different amounts of money. Once you earn $10, you can cash out your earnings to PayPal. Similar programs to this are MistPlay and PlayWell. Note: If you don’t already play games on your phone, this might not be the best solution for you, as it can take a while to earn any real money; on the flip side, if you already enjoy mobile gaming, you might as well earn money while enjoying your hobby!
Make It Count
You will quickly notice that none of these tools will bring in enough cash flow to make you wealthy, but we hope they help you with holiday spending, outstanding bills, and other family costs. We may not all share the same financial situations, but most of us can agree that money troubles of any kind are hard on a family. Whatever you earn, large or small, make it count. Make memories, give generously, and take care of your loved ones.
