There are so many products you can add to your baby registry, and many of them are great. But let’s face it, a lot of those items you won’t need until several weeks (or months) into your baby’s life. When friends ask what they actually need at first, my list is always the same and is made of the items that we reached for over and over again during the first month with our babe. While some items aren’t brand specific, I’ve given a few recommendations for products I absolutely love.

1. 2-Way Zip Sleepers

Forget anything with buttons or snaps and fancy (although cute) baby outfits. Baby G lived in sleepers her first month. I adore sleepers with 2-way zip for easy diaper changes day or night.

This Caden Lane romper fits the bill perfectly!

2. Ubbi Diaper Pail

Speaking of diapers, you’ll be changing a lot of them. I was previously someone who really didn’t want a diaper pail but now am so thankful we have somewhere in the nursery to toss dirty diapers. I love the Ubbi because you don’t need special bags to use it!

3. Bassinet

We had our nursery ready to go weeks before our baby’s arrival when all we really needed to have set up was her bassinet. For your baby’s first few weeks (or months) they will most likely be in your room in a bassinet. We love this pack and play/ bassinet combo for multiple uses and easy storage when we move Baby G to her crib at night.

4. Swaddle

When sleeping, your baby will most likely use a swaddle. The best swaddles are soft and breathable, with enough stretch to keep baby snug and comfy all night! It is so easy to use and super simple during nighttime feedings and diaper changes. Caden Lane swaddles check all of those boxes for us!

5. Pacifiers

If you plan on using them, stock up on a few types so you can find what your baby likes best.

6. Hatch & Sound Machine

This sound machine/ night light/ audio monitor combo can be controlled from an app on your phone and allows you to create programs for bedtime, nap time and wake up.

7. Boppy Pillow

Boppy pillows are what I consider a baby multitool- great for so many reasons. The Boppy can assist with support while feeding, prop baby up for brief periods of time, or to support baby during tummy time! We have multiple around our home!

8. Travel System

I’m cheating a little bit with this one since really this is two items in one, but a nice travel system, or car seat and stroller set, has been invaluable for getting to doctor’s appointments, out of the house for walks, and even for running errands like grocery shopping. We went with the lightweight Nuna car seat and the compatible Mockingbird stroller, but there are a ton of options for every need and budget!

9. Feeding Essentials

I am cheating again a little bit here, but regardless of if you plan to breast or bottle feed, make sure to gather your essentials (bottles, nipples, breast pads, pump, etc.)

10. Diapers & Wipes

The last thing you will want to do during your baby’s first month home is have to run out for diapers and wipes. Make sure you have a few boxes of each ready to go when you get home. We stocked up with newborn and size 1 diapers just in case!
